Roll Handling Lifting Solution

What is a Roll Handling Lifting Solution? When a customer approaches us wanting to lift a roll, rotate, and place it on a machine spindle, we typically recommend one of our Expand-O-Turns. A number of Expand-O-Turn options will be recommended depending on the weight and length of the roll. The majority of our EOT’s end up reflecting an Electric Expander with a Manual Rotate.

The example below reflects a Pneumatic Expander with Manual rotate. This configuration allows the customer to pick up rolls with the following specifications:

• Diameter = 18″
• Inner Core = 3″
• Width = 18″-28″
• Maximum pounds = 200

In this example, when the operator is in need of product, they take the operating hand of the tooling and manually direct it to the storage rack of product (rolls) located in the staging queue. The operator would position the lifter to straddle the expander over the product and lower the expander through the core of the vertical roll until it is fully inserted. Once fully inserted, the operator would expand the expander until the red light on the control box lights up. At that time, the operator would raise the expander by using the remote control and will then rotate the expander to core horizontal position.

Now the operator would wheel the lifter to the desired end location in the facility. Here the operator would drive the lifter to the machine spindle, lock the lifter breaks, and release the expander via a two button push. While making sure the lifter is centered on the machine spindle, the operator would lower or raise the expander with the use of the remote control until the machine spindle is even with the expander. The final step will be pushing the roll off of the expander and onto the machine spindle.

Once complete, the operator would pull the lifter back and wheel it to the staging queue for the next load.
