Case Study: Ergonomic Glass Handling with VacuHand Pro and MOBI-Arm

Industry: Glass Manufacturing
Solution Provided By: RonI | Lift-O-Flex
Customer Challenge
A glass manufacturer needed a safe and flexible way to transport large glass panels across their facility. Operators were required to move panels measuring 22”x44” and 13”x85”, with weights up to 100 lbs. The manual process presented significant risks, including worker strain and potential product damage.
Their goals were to:
- Eliminate manual handling of heavy, fragile glass sheets
- Provide an ergonomic, operator-friendly solution
- Maintain flexibility to move equipment across the facility as needed
- Allow glass to be lifted and tilted at multiple angles for safe placement
Our Solution
RonI provided a VacuHand Pro vacuum tube lifting system mounted on a portable adjustable tower with a MOBI-Arm articulating crane. This mobile design allowed the customer to position the equipment where it was needed most, while maintaining ergonomic handling and precise control of glass movement.
Key Features of the Solution:
- Vacuum Lift Tube: 140mm diameter, 2.5m length with 125 lb capacity
- Portable Base Plate: 4’11” square, ensuring stability and mobility
- Articulating Arm: 10-ft length with locking catch for controlled operation
- Adjustable Height Column: Ranging from 6’5” to 10’5” for varied clearance needs
- Ergonomic VacuHand Control Handle: With release valve and 90° tilt yoke for multi-angle lifting
- Noise Reduction: Sound muffler keeping operation below 70dB(A)
- Vacuum System: 5 HP direct drive vacuum pump with in-line filter unit
Results & Benefits
- Improved operator safety by removing manual lifting of fragile glass
- Flexibility to move the crane throughout the facility as production needs change
- Increased precision and control with multi-angle tilt and easy vacuum release
- Efficiency gains by enabling a single operator to safely handle large glass panels
Why It Worked
The combination of VacuHand Pro’s ergonomic design with the MOBI-Arm’s portability provided the customer with a solution tailored to their workflow. Operators could confidently handle fragile glass with reduced risk of injury or damage, while management gained a mobile, adaptable system that improved safety, efficiency, and productivity.
